Innovative Uses of Family Group Conferences in Social Work

Join us for this Making Research Conference which will examine innovative uses of Family Group Conferences (FGCs) in social work practice to plan for the care and protection of vulnerable children and adults. It will focus on current evidence from research and practice, bringing together social work/FGC practitioners and students with social work educators and academics. Workshops and presentations include:
• ‘Pre birth’ FGCs
• FGCs with young people with Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB)
• FGCs in engaging with BME communities
• FGCs in addressing radicalisation
• The relationship between FGC and social work practitioners

The Social Work Directorate at the University of Salford is committed to promoting the use of FGCs and Strengths Based Approaches to practice and this is a key element of the research focus of the team. The conference organisers, Kate Parkinson and Deanna Edwards, both lecturers in social work at the University of Salford have significant practice experience of FGCs, both having managed FGC services. The use of FGCs in social work practice is now the focus of their research and writing.
