Commissioned training and consultancy services

We provide consultancy services including tailored training courses for practitioners and managers in the statutory and voluntary sectors. All our work is based upon promoting practice that is evidence based, focuses upon the welfare of the child and respects and values families.

As an organisation we combine expertise on research and policy development in this arena, with indepth knowledge of the legal framework, and practice expertise as a service provider, in the field of advocacy and advice. We pioneered family group conferences in England and Wales, run the national Family Group Conference Network, lead on the development of quality standards, and hold international conferences, keeping us in tune with latest developments at home and abroad. We are therefore well qualified to train others in their value and implementation.

We offer courses on advocating for parents in child protection; family and friends care, family group conferences, working with fathers, and child welfare law and practice. Our courses are designed to be purchased by an individual agency or group of agencies. They can be varied or adapted to suit your needs. We provide the trainer(s), and training materials; you provide the venue and participants. If you do not see the course you are looking we are happy to discuss your requirements to design a course that will meet your needs.

We believe that the experience of families who use services can add to and enrich the training experience. On some courses we would recommend a family member as the second trainer.

We can offer a consultancy day to assist you in setting up or developing your family group conference service. If you wish to commission a consultancy day please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We also offer consultancy support if you wish to set up a local support group for family and friends carers.

We are offering an expert consultancy service to assist local authorities in developing their local family and friends care policies. English councils were required by statutory guidance to have such a policy in place by 30th September 2011, but we know that some still do not have a policy, or that have struggled to produce a robust policy. If you are interested or wish to review your policy please contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
