Two weeks ago, my wife and I got into a verbal argument, and when my older daughter intervened and my wife struck her with a stick, I called the police at the heat of the moment without knowing what to do as this has never happened anything like this before . After that my wife was arrested by the police, she was released on bail with a three-month restriction on not being alone with my children without adult supervision. We have no history of incidents or warnings, and our school records made it clear that there is no safeguarding concern. Based on social services' assessment, he was convinced that this was a typical family issue that occurred in the heat of the moment. He stated that he is moving this to family support.
what will happen next, is there any chance of bail condition revised? how long this is likely to take. we are back to normal and It puts too much stress in happy family now. school pickup etc and my wife is missing time she usually spend with our kids taking them to shopping and after school clubs which she enjoys and now that she is restricted , she is so worried which we don't want to see her like that. Any idea what will be the process next and how long this might take? Since the social services moved this to family services saying no safeguarding concern, what will be the outcome?

I am sorry that you and your family are in this situation following a call to the police a couple of weeks ago. This led to your wife being arrested and placed on bail as the result of the assault on your eldest daughter.

Children’s services were informed and having assessed your family situation have no safeguarding concerns and the case is being referred to family support. Here is information relating to Early Help support which you may find helpful.

Regarding your wife’s bail conditions which prevents her from being with the children unless supervised. I understand this must place a lot of stress on the family. Only the police can change the bail conditions and if your wife has a solicitor helping her then she should ask if the solicitor to investigate whether the police are prepared to change the current bail conditions.

Unfortunately, we do not advise on police matters and cannot give you a timescale. Your wife’s solicitor should be able to give you both an idea of how things might progress. The police could at the end of their investigation decide to take no further action or decide to proceed. If no further action, then things could go back to normal as children’s services have said they have no safeguarding concerns. If a further incident were to occur, they may take a different view.

I suggest your wife liaise with her solicitor to have some clarity about how this case may be decided by the police.
