Our advice service

Are you a parent, kinship carer relative or friend of a child who is involved with, or who needs the help of, children’s services in England? We can help you understand processes and options when social workers or courts are making decisions about your child’s welfare.

Our advice service is free, independent and confidential.

About this service

Rise is a voluntary programme in Somerset designed to support women who have experienced, and are at risk of, repeated pregnancies that result in children being removed from their care. Rise gives women the opportunity to take control of their lives and break free from deeply challenging cycles. We support women in making an informed choice about contraception, so they can take a pause in pregnancy for the programme duration.

  • Has taken place

What support is available?

  • General advice and information about adoption
  • Advocacy support to help birth family members get their views across when dealing with children’s services and other official agencies
  • Counselling or therapeutic support
  • Support groups for birth families affected by adoption
  • Support for contact with an adopted child, including letterbox contact (contact is sometimes described as ‘keeping in touch’ or ‘family time’)
  • Another specialist service
    • Accessing benefits, managing debts and budgeting, accommodation support, help to improve relationships
