Youth offending team
Under 1 minute read
Youth offending teams work with children and young people who are accused of or have engaged in criminal activity. The youth offending team would work with the child or young person from arrest through to sentencing. They also work with young people in the wider community to prevent them entering the criminal justice system in the first place. The youth offending team are part of the local authority and are separate from the police and courts.
They get involved if a young person:
- Gets into trouble with the police or is arrested.
- Is charged with a crime and has to go to court.
- Is convicted of a crime and is given a sentence.
