Our advice service

We provide advice to parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and kinship carers who are involved with children’s services in England or need their help. We can help you understand processes and options when social workers or courts are making decisions about your child’s welfare.

Our online advice forums are an anonymous space where parents and kinship carers (also known as family and friends carers) can get legal and practical advice, build a support network and learn from other people’s experiences.

Our get help and advice section describes the processes that you and your family are likely to go through, so that you know what to expect. Our webchat service can help you find the information and advice on our website which will help you understand the law and your rights.

Family Rights Group’s advice service drop in for professionals

Do you work with families who are involved with children’s services in England? Maybe you are a social worker, independent reviewing officer or work in the advice or legal sectors? 

Do you know about Family Rights Group’s Advice and Advocacy Service and what we offer to parents, family members and kinship carers who have questions about a child who is involved with children’s services in England? Family Rights Group provides free, confidential, and independent advice to parents, kinship carers and family members via our telephone advice line, advice enquiry form, live webchat service and online forums.  Our advice helps families understand and navigate child welfare systems.  

In 2023-2024, after calling our advice line: 

  • 81% of callers felt more able to understand the concerns of the social worker. 
  • 78% of callers felt that they had an improved understanding of children’s services procedures.  
  • 84% of callers felt more able to cope. 

Session dates:

Each session will run between 10.00 – 10.45am. Please book onto one date only.

Come along to find out more about the advice service and how to signpost families to us. The session will take place via MS Teams and a Service Manager and one of our expert advisers will provide a brief overview of the service, after which there will be an opportunity to ask questions about our service.
