We provide advice to parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and kinship carers who are involved with children’s services in England or need their help. We can help you understand processes and options when social workers or courts are making decisions about your child’s welfare.
Our advice service is free, independent and confidential.

Our online advice forums are an anonymous space where parents and kinship carers (also known as family and friends carers) can get legal and practical advice, build a support network and learn from other people’s experiences.
Our get help and advice section describes the processes that you and your family are likely to go through, so that you know what to expect. Our webchat service can help you find the information and advice on our website which will help you understand the law and your rights.
Family Rights Group is working to create a map and directory of the different services across England that provide support and information, including advice, peer-to-peer support, and therapeutic services, for families whose children have been adopted or may have a plan for adoption. Currently, there is no single website or resource that birth families in England can search to find out what adoption support is available to them before, during, or after adoption proceedings have taken place, with details of how to access that support – a gap this project will address. You can read more about the project here.
Family Rights Group is now gathering information and data for the map and service directory. If you know of any services or projects in your area that offer adoption-related support or information for birth families whose children either have been adopted or may have a plan for adoption, please share their details with us, so that we can make sure we include them in the map and service directory we create.
Please note that any information shared as part of this survey will remain confidential and will not be published but we will use the contact details shared in the survey to try and make contact with the service.
Your donation will help more families access expert legal advice and support from Family Rights Group.
