Outcome of Panel
Well guys, after 8 months of interviews, checks and the like we finally went to panel last Friday.Thankfully their discission was unanimous and we passed with flying colours!!!!!!!! My nieces mum was told yesterday that her daughter will be coming to us for a week to ten days whilst her carers go on holiday, and when they return the transission period of approx 2 weeks will start!! Which means she should be with us by the 2nd week in October. My sister will get the final care plan report within the next week, this worries me a little as im expecting the "you know what" to hit the fan when she reads it in Black & White,im expecting things to get alot tougher from here on in.We have got an appointment to speak with my nieces head mistress this Thursday to discuss how she is getting on with her education and if there are any problems with other kids regarding her being a "looked after child".i'll let you all know how we get on,kind regards Peggytoof x

Good news. Congratulations.
I'm sure you are right to expect further difficulties, but it looks like the key decision has been made.
best wishes ..... Robin

Congratulations on your approval, peggytoof!
Does the local authority realise the potential for difficulties with your sister? It may be that they could help you deal with her - if your niece is a looked after child, then is shouldn't just be down to you to manage this relationship.
If your sister does take it really hard, then it may be that they could arrange for mediation to assist with the communication between you and your sister. Hopefully your sister can realise that if her daughter doesn't go to you, then the alternative would not be that her daughter goes back to her - her daughter would probably go outside the family altogether.

Re: Outcome of Panel
Thanks guys.
David my sister is STILL living in cloud cookoo land, she seems to have no sense of reality whatsoever, she doesnt accept that her actions and the way she raises her kids is putting them in potential danger! She wants to be their friend rather than their mum.she still insists on visiting her partner who thankfully is now serving a 12 yr sentence for gbh with intent! She cant seem to grasp the fact that although he'e no longer at the family home,ss want her to realize its not so much the act of seeing him but that she cant see whats wrong with the situation, and how it could put them all in terrible danger! We pick my niece up from school on Wednesday and she's gonna be with us for 10 days then the "transission period" begins.speak soon, kind regards Peggy x
