Not sure of this is the correct place to ask..

Caring for our niece since the beginning of August. We reieve a small payment from SW weekly but we have not had any money from Kinship (we are still awaiting being approved as kinship carers)

Do we have to be approved to get the kinship payments and of so will this be back dated to when we started to care for her?

Hi and welcome.

I have answered your question about travelling out of jurisdiction in your other thread. Sadly, as the law is Scotland is very different to England and Wales, you should get a better answer from https://sclc.org.uk.

Best wishes ..... Robin

Dear DGR21

Thank you for posting on Family Rights’ Group’s kinship carers’ discussion board. I am Suzie, Family Rights Group’s online adviser, again.

You are caring for your niece as a kinship carer and are querying the arrangements for you to receive kinship payments.

As you live in Scotland, unfortunately, we are not able to provide the advice you are seeking. Our remit and funding are to advise families in England where children’s services are involved. Child welfare law and procedures differ in Scotland.

Another kinship carer has helpfully signposted you to the Scottish Child Law Centre which I hope has been useful to you. Another option is CLAN or one of the services we have listed in our useful links Scotland page which you can find by scrolling to the end of the page.

I hope that you can get the advice you need and that your financial support is put in place.

Best wishes

Suzie
