Child in need & background checks

Unread post by Girlintheworld » Mon Oct 03, 2022 3:33 pm

Hi, my son has additional needs so presents with violent & destructive behaviour. I have shared care with his father but father is wanting to walk away as refuses to deal with his needs. Son is on a CIN plan, I have very little support apart from close friends who I've kept at arm's length as it can be hard for me to let people in on my circumstances.
I just had a query, if I invited a friend round or tried to take my son out for the day with friends support does my friend have to be background checked as son is on CIN plan? Or is it just people that reside with my son?

Thanks

Hi,
From past experiences, no, anyone not in your immediate family would not need a background check just to take your boy out for the day.
They're just taking him for a trip out and giving you some respite. there's nothing wrong in that and would have nothing to do with a CIN plan.
Hope that helps.

Dear Girlintheworld,

Thankyou for your post and I am sorry to hear about the difficult situation you find yourself in.

I see you have had some useful advice from another poster and I just wanted to clarify this further. As your son has a CIN plan then it is correct to say that children’s services would not need to do background checks on someone you know who wishes to help you (by taking your son out for the day or coming to your property to help you out for example). It is up to you as his parent to ensure that there are no concerns about this person and that they are safe and an appropriate and trustworthy person to spend time with your son.

If however children’s services have raised concerns about this person with you then you should discuss this with children’s services before taking any further action.

I hope that this helps,

Best wishes,
Suzie
