LAC Review

Post by Hopeforfuture » Thu Jun 26, 2025 8:31 am

Hi
Children were removed into foster care in February.

I found out the LAC review was held in March. Can you confirm if I was able to attend this meeting and if so can you provide the legal framework policy stating this.

Thanks

You should be invited.

Ask the social worker or failing that email the.chair person

Dear Hopeforfuture

Welcome to the parents’ forum and thank you for posting.

My name is Suzie, online adviser at Family Rights Group and will respond to your post.

Your children have been in foster care since February. You do not say whether this is a voluntary arrangement under s.20 Children Act or under a court order in the local authority’s favour. In either case, I am sorry the social worker did not invite you to the looked after child (LAC) review in March. As another poster has shared, children’s services should invite you by to the meetings. I suggest you request the minutes of that meeting and ask for the date of the next review which might be in or about September.

You should be able to give your views prior to the next review meeting. The chair of the LAC meeting is the independent reviewing officer (IRO) and you can speak or write to him or her about any concerns you have relating to your children.

Here is information about the IRO in our A-Z of terms

I have also included links to t s.20 voluntary arrangemen and children in care under a court order. You will be able to read about the duties children’s services have depending on which applies to your children. This includes the legal framework for each as you requested in your post.

I hope you will find this information useful. Should you wish to speak with one of our experienced advisers for further advice, please telephone our advice line on 0808 801 0366. The advice line is open from 9.30am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).

Best wishes

Suzie
