Living with a sex offender

Unread post by Fox84 » Tue Apr 23, 2019 10:38 am

Hi suzie, my partner and I are looking for advice. I was convicted in 2017 of 5 cat a images, and have since completed my sentence and risk assessment which has allowed me unsupervised contact with my own children. However my partner has kids also and we are struggling to see this working. Will children's services allow us to live together and does she have any protection from her ex partner gaining full custody due to our relationship. If we chose not to live together would she be better protected?

Dear Fox84

Welcome to the Board, I am sorry for the delay in responding to you.

I think you are correct in saying that it will be difficult for you to live with someone who has children and because you have served a sentence it is likely that you may be on the sex offenders register.

Children’s Services in your partner’s area should be informed about your relationship. You may want to ask them to undertake an assessment.

As to whether your partner has any protection from her ex-partner with regard to his applying for a Child Arrangements Order the answer is no: a non-resident parent can apply for such an order.

Whether or not you choose to live together it may/will be extremely hard to prove that you will ‘never have any form of contact’ with your partner’s children: therefore it is likely that your partner may not be protected in this situation either.

Helpful information for your partner and yourself can be found from Lucy Faithfull, Nacro,
Parents Protect and Unlock.

I hope this information is useful.

Best wishes

Suzie
