Access rights

Unread post by egg1 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 4:55 pm

My 6 year old child lives with her Mother in Manchester whilst I am in London, my child is on the child protection plan and I have been told by the social worker I can only have my child for a couple of weeks in summer holidays as she is on the cpp, is this right?

Why can she not stay for longer as will be in a better environment for the holidays so why would they say this? its not as if I can just pop up the road to see her.

Hi Egg1

I suggest you request Children’s Services give you their decision in writing. Ask them to explain the reasons why your child should only stay in your care for a maximum two weeks during the summer holiday.

Unless there is a specific reason not to do so, as part of the child protection plan, under working together guidance, the Local Authority has a duty to work in partnership with both parents.

If you have not done so already, I recommend that you provide a brief schedule of activities that you may be planning during the summer period, be open to a visit from the local Children’s Services, a police check, and a written agreement, as this level of cooperation will greatly improve your chances of your child having increased contact visits with you, both now and in the future.

Best Wishes

Suzie
