So I met a new man just before Christmas I knew he had 3 kids as he told me when we first met but that he hadn’t seen them for a few weeks as his ex was controlling and only allowed him to see them when she wanted to.
Anyway he does not talk about his kids much as he gets upset and angry as he sees them for 2 weeks then she stops it’s for months at a time.but he happened to mention that the kids she has 3 kids before she met him also were in a child protection plan, and that social services say he can’t be round the kids. Now he has never heard this directly from them only through her.
I k ow they have done parenting courses together but she says that he needs to do lie detector etc which I don’t think is the case.
Anyway my question is can I find out why his kids are on a protection plan? As I also have 3 kids and now I’m wondering was there violence etc to make them say he can’t be there or is she just very controlling and stoping him from see his kids? I don’t want him to be around my kids if there is an issue.

Re: New partners kids on child protection plan
Dear CP2019,
Welcome to the Parent’s forum and thank you for posting.
You ask how you can find out why your partner’s kids are on a child protection plan. His exe has told him he is not allowed to be around his children. You are understandably worried that he may be risky to your children. He has not been forthcoming or does not know why there is a child protection plan. if he does not know, he could of course contact children services himself to find out more as he is dad.
But I agree that it is a good idea for you, as mum, to find out more in case he is in fact potentially risky to your children.
I don’t know how old your children are but you should consider either making sure that you supervise any contact he has with your children or not allowing him any contact until you are sure he is not risky to them.
These are the following things you could do:
• You could contact (email or telephone) children services where his children reside and let them know your worries and ask them whether your partner is risky to your children?
• Contact the NSPCC.
• Via the police. You can call 101 and ask for checks to be done against your partner’s details for domestic violence risks (domestic violence disclosure scheme) and for sex offences (sexual offences disclosure scheme).
I hope these suggestions are helpful. If you have any questions or need further advice, please post again or call our free and confidential advice line on 0808 801 0355.
Best wishes,
Suzie
