Our12 year old daughter disclosed to us that she had been raped By a 13 year old local boy 10 days after the event. We listened to her and went to the police straight away who saw us the same day. Video interview etc.
Police were great and are fully on her side. He was arrested for the rape but said it was consensual. Daughter said he held her throat and firced her which the interviewer said she fully believed as her recall was in such detail that it wasn’t made up
Police have said its statutory rape regardless due to her age Abd and this being below the ability to give consent
It’s was referred to Social services by both police and dr (I called them fir advice re pregnancy test, std testing etc). No they cane to visit within 3 days Avd this is where my questions lie. The social worker said she had no concerns regarding safe guarding, parenting etc. House check done. Talked to our daughter in her her bedroom etc. We fully engaged. She said she’d visit daughter at home a week after new start of term ( so sending week off September) And would send us her report but she would be happy to close the case after seeing our daughter the second time
We haven't heard anything from sw since initial visit she hadn’t made 2 nd appointment or contacted us at all.
This was12/08/20. Police have said they (ss) won’t be bothering with us and it should be a single agency dealing. Ie police
CPS have requested more details of the incident (2 weeks ago)
We just wanted to know as it is over the standard 45 days. What do we do. Is SS case closed or should we contact them for any updates?
Obviously we want to get case closed. They said they were happy with all we had done to support our daughter. Sought immediate medical /police help. Engaged with SS no issues and obtained councilling services recommended by both police and ss
Sorry just really stressed over it all the situation is bad enough without ss looming over us.
Any advice more than welcome
Thank yiu.

Re: What happens now.
Completely disgraceful you should be left hanging like this. Disgraceful that you should be treated to all effects as a potential 'culprit' in a some way by the the initial investigation by the SS, like you are possibly responsible for the rape of your daughter in some way by not caring for her; YES, that IS the assumption by which they work - that you MIGHT be effectively an abuser/neglector of your child, and you have been to all intents and purposes FORCED to prove otherwise. It seems you have done this successfully, and they should now at the very least HAVE THE DECENCY to inform you officially and have a line drawn under that aspect of things. An apology as to the delay would be nice too, but don't expect that. It was clear to the professionals involved in the police investigation that you and you're daughter were innocent and transparent, behaving responsibly in everything and that should have been sufficient, together with the boys confession. Even if the case is closed tomorrow, it's still scandalous the way they've treated you. Under-staffing, the size of their workloads may be the only reason for this - but still, that/s hardly satisfactory for your human rights and peace of mind is it? I'd love to see how the advisors in here justify the SS's performance in this.
Well, my advice is try contacting them ONCE yourself to ask if the case can be closed (if you can get through their switchboard and establish you' ve got the message through to whoever has the authority), and if this doesn't bring results within a week, then get a family law SOLICITOR, update them on all these facts and ask THEM to insist the case is closed, unless the SS can put up a reason why it should not be.

Re: What happens now.
Thank you for your reply. It’s just added stress that we don’t need. So frustrating as waiting for COS to decide what charges they are bringing, if we will have to attend court etc. We know he will be prosecuted for statutory rape due to her age. I could just do with the ss side being closed to move on.
I will find her number - she made initial contact from her mobile so I will call that for an update.

Re: What happens now.
Dear Mumofonlyone,
Welcome to the Parent’s Forum. I am so sorry to hear about your daughter’s ordeal. I am glad that she has been referred for support by the police and children services.
Your question is whether children services have finished their assessment and closed their case. You have not heard anything from them since August. Usually, when a social worker closes a case, a letter would be sent informing you of this. It has been such a long time without you hearing anything that it does sound like it is closed. But to find out for sure, I agree with your plan to call the social worker. If you have difficulty contacting the social worker, there will be an email address on your local authority website that you can use to “report a concern about a child”. Your email should then be forwarded to children services.
Here is our advice sheet Introduction to children services.
If you need further advice, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best wishes,
Suzie
