Sgo supervised contact cost

Unread post by Penguinbear » Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:11 pm

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone new if I (the parent) is required to pay for contacts for the superviser or is there somewhere they can get there costs reimbursed. I am being told I am required to pay for my son (I do this anyway) and his supervisor (the sgo holder).

Many thanks

The SGP advice sheet by the FRG https://www.frg.org.uk/images/Advice_Sh ... arents.pdf states the following:

"Can a special guardian get any help with contact arrangements?
Children’s Services may offer you (and other members of the family) help with contact.
For example they may:
- Help you to see your child, for example they can help with your travel expenses or the costs of taking your child out somewhere;
- Be willing to pay your mediation costs if there are difficulties over contact that you and the special guardian want to try to sort out with the help of a mediator.

However they don’t have to give you this help. They will decide whether to help you based on the result of their assessment of your need, your child’s need and the special guardian’s need for this support."

You should have a copy of a SGO support plan which you were given during court proceedings - if this states that social services would contribute towards the cost of contact, social services will have to uphold it. If it doesn't state it, they don't have to.

Of course, you don't need to cover the cost for the SGO holder, however, they may then difficulties to facilitate the contact and stop it as a result.
