Shared parental responsibility

Hi can anyone help please? My baby has been on plo for 13 months now, everything was going great then there was n incident with his dad, I got made to choose and chose my kids. The local authority had a legal gateway meeting today and have said the outcome was to issue proceedings and request shared parental responsibility but for baby to remain with me. I have spoken to my solicitor and she has said this can only last 6 months. Can anyone help and explain more about what it means please? Thanks.
