Case closed - but recommended supervised contact

Unread post by Rodentia » Thu Feb 03, 2022 8:24 pm

Hello,
First time posting. So a few months ago my unborn babies dad was convicted of possessing IIOC, went guilty and is currently awaiting sentencing.

We are expecting a baby in a few weeks time and since the arrest had a case open with child services who were completing a pre birth assessment on our unborn baby. I have heard back that finally they are closing the case without escalating to a child in need or child protection or anything, however their recommendations after doing a risk assessment on dad is that he is high risk and must have supervised contact only (by his family members) and he has moved out of our family home.

I asked child services how this is going to be observed or managed if our case is closed and they basically said the babies dad will be aware he is only to have supervised contact, as will his "named people to supervise" and therefore he shouldn't deviate from it.

It seems bizarre to me that they have said High risk, supervised contact only....yet they have closed the case with no way of monitoring it.

I'm happy with the outcome and not challenging the decision but I guess my question is how, if at all is this contact ever monitored by child services? Would it be a case of if they heard he wasn't complying or he was left alone with the baby and they found out some how then they would re open the case and escalate things?

It just seems bizarre they have said .....there is a risk....but we trust it to be observed and dealt with by us as a family I guess.....

Or is this a case where they have actually acted reasonably and with sense instead of keeping us on a plan for the longest time?

That is really good to hear that they have closed the case you said he was highly risk social or did Lucy faithfull do the assessment. Did you have to separate from your partner as well ?

We did have to separate yes, but who knows what will happen in the future. Given time we may approach and see how they could support us. But that's a long way off. Social services did their own risk assessment and concluded high risk but as he's not living with us anymore that may be why it's closed 🤷‍♀️

It's a good outcome! I just wonder how much we actually will be left alone or if they'll be back.

Did they say you can’t talk to him and stuff and you will have to wait till your child is 16 years old

They will only be back if they were to find out you are back together. Did they not say they will come every year or something to keep an eye .

No, they haven't said anything like that. I already know my rights in relation to what they can and can't Control. Social services cannot control who we speak to. Although this can raise their concerns in relation to the child....they cannot implement anything like that officially.

My social worker is fully aware as I've told her that at some point when the baby is born we will have to speak to arrange practical things like our separation of physical possessions and finances etc. Also to arrange contact albeit supervised. 🤷‍♀️

I think so long as he isn't back in the family home and the contact is observed then they're happy with that.

Probation I believe are saying low risk. He hasn't been sentenced yet, but they can't keep the Section 47 unborn assessment open forever....they have a 45 day time limit so have had to conclude now that the baby is at no risk of harm due to him being out the family home and being on supervised contact.

I haven't had the official closure report through although I have asked for it so will wait..... but I don't think they have the time or capacity to say they'll be back in a year etc with no new Information. Obviously I think if we wanted to get back together etc then they would become Involved I guess.

Yes they want to make sure you are putting your baby first which you have and it’s good that they have backed off does he have any conditions like he can’t be with anyone under the age of 16 .

I guess I will have to wait until the sentencing to know what is implemented for the future. 🤷‍♀️ as he's signed on the SOR I'm pretty sure they'll be something
