Dear Caring heart

Welcome to the parents' discussion forum and thank you for posting.

I am sorry to see that your son was removed from your care and placed with foster carers. Are there any members of your family who can look after your son whilst children’s services assessing you and involved with your family.

Unfortunately, you have not given details of the reason children’s services decided that your son needed to be in foster care which means it is not possible to fully advise. You mention in your post that there are concerns that you will not change. In your post you say that you believe there is discrimination because of your learning needs and mental health. Do you have any additional support relating to these issues?

It might be helpful, if you do not already have one, to ask for an advocate who can support you in meetings with children’s services. The social worker can help you to find an advocate. You may be able to get some help from this service Mind 0300 123 3393

This WEBSITE provides information about how professionals should work with parents with a learning disability. If children’s services are not offering appropriate help and support with your difficulties, then you should ask that they do so. You can read about working with an advocate from this guide GUIDE on our website

Here is INFORMATION on our website relating to adults with learning difficulties where children’s services involved.

I hope you find the information in the links above helpful.

Should you wish to speak to an adviser you can telephone our free confidential advice line on 0808 801 0366. The advice line is open from 9.30am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).
