Hi there,
My ex partner has just been put on the SOR for 2 years after receiving a caution last month for having a small number of Cat C IIOC on his device.
We would ultimately like to reconvene our relationship. We haven't been together as a couple for 18 months, but have been supportive friends. I have a daughter under 18. Not his biological daughter.
I have just updated Child Services (my case is closed, but I felt it right to submit details of what happened). The police are also going to update them too. Once he has gone through Family Court regarding increased access to his biological children, and has had a Risk Assessment carried out (he has requested one via Children's Services), then we are going to sit and discuss options moving forwards, and timescales.
Anything we do now will result in Children's Services involvement, which causes problems for me and my family's safety and security with regards to my ex husband. So what I want to know is, if we decide to wait for 2 years when he has spent his time on the SOR, are we actually then able to move forwards without their involvement. My daughter will still be under 18.
I am getting mixed messages, and I actually want to know my rights. Currently the rights of my ex to know who I would be dating feature higher than my right (and therefore the rights of my daughter) to a safe and secure life!

Dear BeeBee,
Thank you for your post.
You say that your ex-partner has been placed on the sex offenders register for 2 years for possession of indecent images of children. You have not been together for 18 months but would like to reconcile your relationship. You have a daughter under 18. You have informed children's services, who were previously involved. He is in court proceedings in relation to contact with his own children. You would like to know whether children's services will still become involved if you reconcile when he is no longer on the sex offenders register.
Children's services are likely to see your partner as a risk to children due to the nature of the offence he has committed. They are likely to see him as a risk, even if he is no longer on the sex offenders register. This means that if you reconcile at any point, and he has a role in your daughter's life, children's services may want to complete an assessment as a minimum. I would encourage you to be open and transparent with children's services if this does happen, so that they can take the appropriate and necessary action.
You may find it helpful to contact the Lucy Faithful organisation on 0808 1000 900, who advise and provide information to those related to people who have committed sex offences.
Best wishes,
Suzie.
