What can I write about publicly?

Unread post by Fightingmumma » Mon Jun 10, 2024 6:37 pm

Hi I have just finished writing a book about what social services did to me and my family, by taking away my children under false premises and manipulation, 10 years ago, destroying all of our lives. I have not named the council in my book or anywhere in my writing and I have just created a fictional village and county. But I have written everything that they did to me and my kids and the years of torment and cruelty they subjected us all to. Will I be permitted to try to get a publisher for my book, as I have not named the council or any names directly? I have used my children's real names though as two of them are adults now, and the third one is almost an adult, but maybe I shouldn't include their real names? I don't use anyone's real name at all but I've had some advice telling me I should use the real names for everyone and everywhere to draw people in from curiousity.
I'm just hoping someone maybe will have advice on whether I could get into any trouble for putting all of this information out there.
I've had some interest from major publishers too but I'm hesitant to send the manuscript out until I establish whether I could be held in contempt of court or jailed or something as I discuss in detail every decision made in court, all the court hearings over the years, all the social workers, etc, but no real names.
Please can you advise at all?
Thank you

Dear Fightingmumma,

Thank you for your post on the parents' forum.

At Family Rights Group, we advise families who are currently known to children's services about issues that may relate to that involvement. This may include advice on assessments, child in need plans, child protection plans and care proceedings.

Unfortunately, your post does not fall within our remit and we are unable to advise on the legalities of publishing the information you mention. Given what you have said, I think you would benefit from contacting a solicitor who specialises in this area, to ensure that you are taking the necessary and appropriate steps.

I wish you all the best.

Best wishes,

Suzie.
