How do I respond?

Unread post by helpplease » Tue Nov 26, 2013 2:29 pm

Hello

Thanks for adding me to the forum.

We have had an initial assessment which was escalated to a core assessment - child in need, after my child tried to commit suicide with school stress. My child has disabiities and the school really do not understand how this can affect xxx.

My ex reported us to ss and the police on the evening of the attempted self harm, they did nothing initially until a couple of weeks after when ss intervened, the outcome of which is the report. Imo the report is written very much from my ex perspective and has details of my other children from my second marriage, along with a comment from the old teacher, stating that the parent is hostile, overprotective, teacher is concerned for parent's welfare and there are issues about fabricated illnesses, the same as my ex believes too, as ex cannot accept child's diagnoses. All of this is not true, never have I made up anything..

What do I do? How do I respond? Although it has been agreed that there are no issues on child protection the case has been dropped to a CAF.

I am worried that by replying I will open up a new can of worms, but I cannot bear the thought of so many lies written about us.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Dear helpplease

Under 'Working Together', the Local Authority have a duty to work in partnership with parents, to advise, consult you and keep you informed of any key decisions they make, when working with you regarding your child.

As well as the purpose being to raise current issues of concern, it should assess your child's needs, and recommendations for family support, at this time, your views should be recorded as part of the core assessment. Any areas of agreement or disagreement should be clearly evident within the report.

Remember that you are entitled to receive a final copy, so it is important to request this, if you have not already received it.

It will be helpful for the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) to be informed by an accurate core assessment, so you should not feel bad about raising these points with the social worker now, as it could effect future decisions regarding your child.

I hope this helps.

Best Wishes

Suzie
