Adivce badly needed.

Unread post by bluefox81 » Mon Jan 20, 2014 12:14 pm

My girlfriend and I lost our son thanks to social services back in September. However, she also has another son by someone else he's now 8 years old. His sole carer was his father who has now died from cancer. Clearly this has been a really hard time for her son and we would like him to come and live with us as she is his only living parent. my girlfriend is seen as a risk as she has mental health problems ( she was abused and raped age 9 until the age of 12 and now suffers P.T.S.D) and social services or as I like to call them the SS. Believe she couldn't care for her son. Can anyone point me in the direction of a reliable web site that offers sound legal (UK) rules to mental health acts that could relate to this subject? I would like to find out if the SS will treat her as badly as they always have in the past. She has a CPN who visits monthly and she does have a solicitor, but we would really like some real world advice and not the "junk talk" we get from everyone. We're in the **** area if that helps

Dear Bluefox81,

I am really sorry to hear about the difficult time you and your partner have had over the last year. I can see that you also want to protect your girlfriend from another assessment by children services -that may be negative and possibly traumatise her further.

Your girlfriend has an 8 year old son who had been living with his father. You want to know whether children services would become involved, if the child came to live with you. In order for me to answer your question-can you let me know whether the 8 year old son is in foster care or not?
I note that your girlfriend has a solicitor. Given the recent proceedings, her solicitor may be in the best position to answer your questions.
To discuss your girlfriend’s situation in depth and confidentially, you could also contact our advice line for further advice. It is 0808 801 0366 and is open between 9:30 and 3pm Monday to Friday.
Best wishes,
Suzie
