How can a CPC be authorised when section 47 has not been followed and this has been done in less than 2 weeks? I have mental health issues and trying to get help for my son for years, he threatened suicide in Nov and nothing has been done to help, the gp was useless.
The children were under children’s services in the past and i was awarded residency in 08.
i was told the category for CPC is physical and emotional abuse, only 1 visit to the family home has been made and she only talked to me and my partner at that time and she did not inspect the house. only 1 visit to the children in school at that time.

Dear MC&JMF
Welcome to the parent's discussion board.
I am sorry to hear that you are worried about the forthcoming initial : child protection conference that has been arranged in relation to your child.
It seems that you have been having to balance the need for him to be offered appropriate support with your own and your son's mental health as well as : your support needs as a family.
If I understand you correctly, you appear to be concerned that the Local Authority did not inform you they planned to carry out a : child protection (or section 47) investigation to say they had concerns about your child's welfare? It is good practice that you are informed of this at the outset, and given a written response about the outcome.
Has an : advocate been arranged to attend the meeting with you? If not you may wish to contact : Mind . In respect of your son : Young Minds or : NYAS may be able to help.
If you wish to talk to an adviser about your own set of circumstances, please feel free to contact our advice line on 0808 801 0366 Monday to Friday 09.00 am to 03.00 pm.
I hope this helps.
Best Wishes
Suzie

Thank you for your response to our worries.
I was asked by my GP who had no concerns for my or any one elses safety (though mine is now questionable due to the stresses) if I would like her to ask the LA Childrens Services for some help for the family.
2 weeks later only after one initial home visit with the SW and 1 visit to the children at school it has gone straight to CPC, following your advice and researching LA policy Banardo's are meant to provide Advocate services when requested, (which we have done.) after many attempts to get answers from the CS and a complaint, the allocated SW (person who complaint was made about,) phoned me about complaint and when I asked about Advocate service and that I believe the meeting should not happen without this support from my son and myself; she replied the meeting would happen and if I didnt attend then it would be my fault.
we have a meeting with the Service manager of the team to discuss the reasons for the short cuts etc tomorrow and had to put off our meeting with a local charity offering basic legal advice until after this meeting. my previous experience with the LA and providing Advocates at LAC for my step-daughter, I will contact my local MIND and see how much notice they need.
we will update more after tomorrows meeting
thanks

Re: circumventing section 47 and CPC
Dear MC and JMF, I feel I must warn you that it is fairly common for social workers to corrupt cases and rush decisions through CPC's on the strength of unrealistiic and misinformed assessments.
This may mean their aims and intentions are illicit. They may have plans for your child already and may ignore correct procedures in support of these plans.
Therefore keep a note of every instance in which they have already done so.
In what ways are they claiming you have physically or emotionally abused your child or if they aren't saying that how do they think the child may be at risk of the same?
If they haven't told you and if they haven't recorded your disagreements and circulated them amongst relevant professionals in good time before the planned CPC and if they don't put forward the GP's views then the signs are they are going to illicitly bounce through a decision that the child is at significant risk under the meaning of the Children's Act when he or she isn't. We have seen it countless times before.
Don't be afraid of letting them know this concern and you were quite right to arrange today's meeting to do so. Be warned, they may start depicting your valid worries as non-cooperation.

Physical because they have been smacked and I mean a smack not a punch or beating and emotional because I having a break down and my son not getting any help after years of pleading for some help, his behaviour has weakened our bond.
I have a copy of their check lists and procedures and will demanding answers for why and what evidence for each step.
