New partner has brought social services into my life

Unread post by Concerned mum » Tue Jul 08, 2014 7:20 pm

My girlfriend recently moved down from Glasgow with her 2 children...I was aware that the children were subject to a child protection order when she moved...I have a 14 year old daughter and now social services are saying that my daughter will have to become part of the plan also....since moving down to live with me we have had the transfer meeting and for our local authority the only thing they can have my partners 2 children on child protection is down to neglect....as the report from Glasgow is saying the children were presenting at school unkept and not clean and smelling.....what I don't understand is how they can put my daughter on a plan for neglect and she is in no way neglected.....since moving we've had 2 core group meting that have been really positive school are saying both children are presenting well at school and are clean and tidy and no issues have been raised.....I guess my question is will my daughter be made subject to a plan as in the at risk register.....or a child in need plan?

Dear Samib

Welcome to the parent's discussion board.

You raise some very valid points about transfer of child protection cases, and the need for the receiving Local Authority to complete their own assessment of your family's needs.

Once a transfer in child protection conference has been held and they have responsibility for your case, they then have a statutory responsibility to work in partnership with you from the outset.

The core group meeting can then be used to establish the roles of individual members, key responsiblities for what needs to happen, and timescales for completing the actions of the : child protection plan so everyone is clear who is responsible for any proposed changes and how these will be implemented.

In relation to your own child, the Local Authority will assess many factors such as your willing to engage in the assesmsent, any support offered and any agency feedback from professionals involved with you at this time such as the school, gp, etc.

I hope this helps.

Best Wishes

Suzie
