Help with order in which things should happen? so confused !

Unread post by whatnow » Tue Oct 21, 2014 12:00 pm

So 11 weeks ago my 4 kids got involved with social care. 2 went to private arrangement and 2 went to foster care. I went straight to a solicitor...since then i have spent all my time online trying to make sense of what is happening and reading as many personal stories as i can to try and gain some insight. At first i was telling sw i read about this and found out about that, she and her manager advised me to stop using online sources as the ppl are angry, lie and exaggerate.
However ignoring what they said i continued and pointed out that what ppl were saying online was true as it was actually happening to me. They suggested i would be better ignoring other ppl's stories as each case was different. Anyway as you can see i am here which means i have not stopped lol. I have gathered so much information and advice on this site amongst others. Now looking at my own case i have a couple of questions. I need to know what the process is, i mean in regards to meetings and assessments. They had an LAC meeting apparently when my kids became looked after, then a PLO meeting, then another LAC meeting, then a child protection meeting, then another PLO meeting and my meeting last week which was another PLO. I did a 6 week parenting assessment which was them observing 2 contacts and 4 × 2 hour long interviews covering my background, what my routine was, if i had my kids returned how things would be different and the last one was like a summary. I have read so much about initial assessments and core assessments etc but i dont understand which one of my meetings this was done at, as i have read this is essential. Im so confused and would appreciate if someone could take the time to reply. I want to make sure i have the proper info when asking my sw for copies of the reports etc. Many thanks.

PLO is Public Law Outline which I understood as being pre proceedings to see if you shape up so they don't have to spend their budget taking you to court. we went through that before care proceedings were started. Hope that helps.

Yeah public law outline. My kids are on section20 but i cant withdraw as im on bail with conditions of no unsupervised contact. Im trying to have bail varied as sc said i can have them back. But now they saying if i get charged they will have to reconsider. But i just wonder why i have not had core assessment or is this the same as parenting assessment? Im already going throw all reports highlighting errors incase i need to go to court. I will find out on 29th if im getting charged.

Dear whatnow

Welcome to Family Rights Group Parents’ Discussion Board.

My name is Suzie and I am an Adviser at Family Rights Group.

I am sorry that you are having a difficult time at the moment with Children Services in respect of your children.

You say in your post that your children are accommodated under a s.20 agreement by Children Services and you have been cooperating and engaging the assessment process. Your parenting assessment was positive and you were led to believe that your children would return home. The position now seems to have changed as children services have told you they will have to reconsider their decision if you are charged as you are currently on bail.

There is no mention of the offence in your post but children services has been working with you with a view to the children being returned to your care whilst being aware of the fact you are on bail. If you were to be charged there is the possibility that if you were found guilty there could be a custodial sentence. This would of course be disruptive for the children so it may be they do not want to move the children only for there to be a further move for them.

As you will find out on the 29th whether are not you will be charged, after this your position will be clear and the children’s return is likely to go ahead as you have already been told.

I do not think it is so much children services going back on their word more that they are waiting to see what will happen. They have to make decisions with the children’s best interests in mind.

To help you have a better understanding of the process for children to be reunited with their family from care, I have put a link to our advice sheet here

I hope you will find this information helpful.

Best wishes,

Suzie

Thanks ange. Hi suzie. Sc have always known there was a chance of me being charged. Police was called to a domestic. When they arrived the house was a mess. I also got arrested for assault. I had nobody to look after my kids so police used theirs powers and did a police protection order. My 2 oldest were in private arrangement until friday. On thursday after PLO the family member was told about the rehab home, he wanted to keep them and even tried getting a residence order which sc did not support. On friday lunchtime he drove my boys the400 miles and dumped them in sc office. Sw manager called me and called police trying to get my bail varied and wanted to give me them back friday. But police couldnt vary it as at cps, nothing changed friday till monday except the boys were put in foster placement.so sw manager tried best to get them home to me but now they in foster care she said - the boys r ok now and we are worried about your bail. I really dont get it. I reckon they knew all along but just told me i could have them back so i would shut up and stop complaining until i was actually charged. I really dont trust anything they say now.
