Dear Kitty. I am so sorry to hear what happened today.
I understand exactly how you feel; we had two children taken from us and it is devastating.
Did you get to read the social worker's statements properly and the Guardian's assessments.

I can't understand why they took your baby if you separated from the sex offender , cut off all contact with him , went to live back at your Mum's and changed your life. Did they tell the Court you were uncooperative, were unlikely to change and there was a risk you would return to him and put the baby at risk?

Did your baby actually suffer any bodily harm or emotional harm in his short life . I think their case is very dubious but it often happens,,I'm afraid. What did a dna test have to do with it anyway? You should get a copy of the court judgment and see what reasons the judge gave to justify adoption and go from there.

Take a couple of days to get over the shock and then tell us the answer to these questions.

It probably won't take long to find a new family for a six-month old baby.

Dear Kitty

I am sorry to hear that you had such a difficult time at court.

For a variety of procedural reasons and unforeseen circumstances, it is not always easy to predict how long the adoption process is likely to take from start to finish.

Did the court grant a placement order to the Local Authority giving them permission to identify and place your child for an adoption? Furthermore, did you check with your solicitor if you are still entitled to public funding? Hence, if they will continue to represent you throughout this process as this will determine the advice given here.

In the interim, you may find it useful to refer to our adoption advice sheet below:-

Dear Kitty

The Local Authority should continue to consult you on any key developments or significant changes to the care plan (s). For instance, you will be informed if an adoptive family has been identified, along with a schedule of contacts up and until the point your child is placed with them.

Any adoptive family would need the approval of the adoption and/ or permanency panel once all the relevant assessments have been completed.

Under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 Standard 17 refers to the requirement of the '...adoption panel and (agency) decision maker (to) make timely, quality and appropriate recommendations/ decisions.........'

Best Wishes

Dear Kitty,

The care-plan for adoption should outline details of all the advice and support which sw's should provide to you and I presume that will include instructions as to how you go about writing a letter to your son.
Unfortunately,in a lot of cases ( my own included) they forget about any duty to you once they have a placement order and ignore the care-plan.

So watch out for that.

In the meantime, you must think about whether you will now be consenting to the adoption or not very quickly. If you do not consent and you think that the sw's and the Guardian have not given the true facts, for example, you have a right to appeal the court judgment but you must apply within 21 days.
I would consult my solicitor to discuss the possibility right away on Monday morning if I was you.
Sometimes people have good reasons to appeal but they leave it too late!

If the baby is placed with a family, the family will have to go to court to have the adoption finalised; you would have a chance of reclaiming the baby at that stage but it will be a very slim one. The chances of winning an appeal aren't good either,to say the least, but at least you will have the satisfaction of saying you fought for your baby.

Start by examining the court judgment.
