Welcome and rules of use

Welcome to Family Rights Group’s discussion forum for parents.

This forum provides an online place where parents can meet other people who are in the same situation. You can use the forums to chat informally or have serious discussions. Family Rights Group advisers will also be on hand during weekdays to answer questions and give advice. Please note any information and advice provided is not and must not be deemed as legal advice.

If you haven’t registered already, you will have to fill in our online registration form before you can start posting here.

Rules of use

1. Registration and Usernames
Before posting on the forum, you must register for an account. Registration takes only a few minutes. When choosing your username, please do not include any real names (yours or anyone else’s) or any information that could identify you or another person. Usernames must not contain personal, identifying or sensitive information. We reserve the right to reject any usernames that are offensive, inappropriate or contain identifiable details. All registrations are subject to moderator approval to help prevent spam and ensure community safety.

2. Legal and Policy Compliance
Our forums operate in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), and any subsequent or replacement data protection laws. Our quality assurance policies: Confidentiality and Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy, Privacy Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy all apply to the forums.

3. IP Address Restrictions
To comply with UK data protection laws and to help prevent spam and fraudulent activity, we do not accept or process registrations or posts from IP addresses outside the United Kingdom.

4. Respectful Communication
Please ensure your messages are respectful of other users’ views, experiences and opinions, even if you do not agree with them.

5. Reporting Concerns
If you are concerned about a message posted by another user, please use the ‘report now’ button. This will alert a moderator, who may review and, if necessary, remove the message.

6. Message Length Limits
To help make sure that messages can be easily read and understood by everyone using the forums, there is a limit on the length of messages that can be posted. This limit is 500 words.

7. Moderation Coverage
A moderator will oversee the forums regularly during week days, excluding bank holidays.

8. Moderator Rights
Moderators may, at any time, delete messages (or parts of messages), move messages to more appropriate topics, or refer messages to an adviser for legal or practical help.

9. External Links and Personal Information
Moderators will check all external links posted on the forums. Links deemed inappropriate or unhelpful will be removed. Please do not share personal information (including email addresses, phone numbers or addresses) or anything that could identify you, children or others. Any such information will be edited or removed by moderators. You are also advised never to exchange personal information via private message.

10. Public Nature of the Forums
Please remember that messages posted on the forums are publicly visible. While you are welcome to express your emotions and experiences, swearing at other members is not acceptable. If you need to use strong language to describe your situation, please abbreviate using asterisks (*). Messages containing un-abbreviated swear words will be deleted by moderators.

11. Content Standards
You must make sure that any message (or part of it) you post (or intend to post) in the forums do not or is not:
• rude, disrespectful or insulting;
• likely to provoke, incite or attack others or contain words or language intended to offend other users;
• racist, sexist, homophobic, ageist or otherwise discriminatory in nature;
• defamatory, harassing, abusive, obscene, threatening, harmful, profane, sexually orientated or otherwise objectionable;
• unlawful or encourages unlawful activity, whether criminal or civil;
• advertises and promote commercial products and services;
• copied from a third party without their permission, or is otherwise likely to infringe the rights of a third party;
• contain personal contact details – email addresses, phone numbers, addresses or identify individuals in other ways;
• encourage action that may harm the wellbeing of others.

12. Media and Research Use

13. Prohibition of Private Transactions and Services
You are advised not to enter into any transactional arrangement with another forum user, including via private message. The offer of any goods or services, including professional advice, between forum users is barred. Family Rights Group has no responsibility for any such exchange that may take place, and anyone found to have offered goods or services on the forum will be removed.

14. Enforcement
Users who do not adhere to these rules may have their access to the forums restricted or removed.
