Child in need plan void?

Unread post by Orionsbelt » Fri Sep 16, 2022 2:24 pm

Hi all,
I hope someone can shed some light on this for us.
Last year we were subjected to the 2nd accusation of 'seeking a diagnosis' for a child with a long history of medical issues including:
Nasogastric tube for 3 years by a consultant.
Food allergies
Joint issues.
Vacant episodes.

All of which are evidenced and witnessed by professionals, but are a head scratcher for medical staff.
His consultant is a very egotistical man and my background is in nursing. I do not agree with some of his opinions and they are not evidence based.

On 2020 our son suffered damaged to one of his ankles leading him to be in plaster. Prior to this he has and still has, orthotic splints to keep his ankles steady. He has a wheelchair prescribed by the NHS.
He was not healing as he should and it was taking longer than usual.
The children's hospital were aware of this and predicted his recovery would take well over a year with rheumatology and physio.
His physio was from a different trust and started to concoct her own story about what was happening. She failed to gather the right information and went straight to his school without consent and his consultant.
We were ambushed in a meeting and accused of untrue things like taking our son to school in a wheelchair (which we did once in 18 months and wrote in his communication book why). He was prescribed oramorph and we were not happy so we had the dose lowered. We were accused of giving him backstreet drugs.
We were basically made out to be making our son out to be worse than he was.
We took him to a private rheumatology Consultant to clear this up. It was suggested he may have complex pain syndrome.
Social services investigated every inch of our lives and found not one crumb of anything that wasn't documented and implemented by medical professionals. There has been lies and drama created by the physio and the SENCO at school.
The safety plan or 'child in need plan' will not be taken by the next team. They said it does not warrant a safety plan as we haven't done anything wrong.
So, 3 months on we have never had a child in need meeting but it is still all over his notes.
The same thing happened last time.
The social worker will not contact us back and we have not heard anything.
Would this mean that it is void and can I write a formal request to suggest it is removed?
Seems there is an issue with the social worker not wanting to point the finger at the professionals and actually say that they were wrong.
If anyone can help that would be great.
Thankyou

Dear Orionsbelt,

Welcome to the parents forum and thank you for your post. I am sorry to hear about the difficulties that you have been experiencing and I hope that the following advice is of some help.

From the information you have given it sounds as if children’s services have completed an assessment (either a child in need assessment or a section 47 assessment (also known as child protection enquiries)). You say that a child in need plan was recommended however the ‘next team’ are not accepting this. I think that you probably mean that it is the long-term children’s services team (who work with children on child in need plans and child protection plans) who have said that they do not accept your son’s case. This may be because they disagree with the assessment team and feel that the threshold is not met for child in need services, or possibly it may be because they do not have the capacity to take the case. Either way I would suggest that if you do not wish to accept support under the child in need process (as child in need plans are voluntary rather than mandatory) then you could write to children’s services to tell them that you are withdrawing your consent for their involvement. As you have heard nothing back from the social worker then I would suggest you write to the manager or head of service instead. You can find more information HERE about the voluntary nature of child in need services.

It is not possible to ‘void’ or remove the documents regarding the assessment that has been completed. You may wish to request copies of the documents that are on your son’s file, and if you wish to challenge any of the information in these documents then you can do so by way of a formal complaint. Please see HERE for information and guidance regarding the formal complaints process.

I hope that the above has been of some help. If you would like any further advice then you can either post here again or call our free, confidential helpline on 0808 801 0366 (Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 3pm) to speak with an adviser.

Best wishes,
Suzie
