Midwife

Unread post by Ify98 » Mon Jun 05, 2023 12:45 pm

Hello,

I have had my first appointment with the midwife as I am 3 months pregnant. I told the midwife that I was in a heated argument with my partner sister which then involved the police and a potential court case. I also gave her the date of the court case. The midwife said because of what I have told her she will make a report to the social worker. I would kindly like to know what the social worker can do at this stage please. My partner and I have no history of abuse and no previous convictions. I have just finished my law degree and hopefully I will start working soon in my career before I put to bed. Did I make a mistake by telling the midwife that I had beeen in a heated argument with my partner sister ?

Did she ask you a question relating to any involvement with police, SS?

Dear Ify98,

Welcome to the parents' board and thank you for your post.

You say that you have had your first appointment with your midwife and that you are 3 months pregnant. You disclosed to your midwife that you had had an argument with your partner's sister which led to police involvement, and a potential court case. The midwife told you that she would contact children's services. You would like to know what children's services can do at this stage.

Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy!

It is a positive thing that you have been open and honest with your midwife about this argument.

She has now made a referral to children's services. Children's services will look at the referral and consider whether it is necessary to open a pre-birth assessment. This will involve the social worker talking to you, the child's father, your wider network and any professionals who may be involved. Take a look here for more information and possible outcomes to a pre-birth assessment. I would also advise you take a look at our webpage here for more information for parents-to-be who may come into contact with children's services.

I hope you have found this helpful.

Best wishes,

Suzie.
