moving child

Unread post by fru5trated » Tue Jul 02, 2024 10:46 pm

can anyone help please?
I have just received notification that my child has been moved without anyone telling me.
my child is in LAC (17) apparently the last placement "kicked them out" only been in this placement since April and was a solo placement.
after sending an email today questioning this SW has confirmed that the sign off decision was made last Thursday and I was going to be told later this week. feels like locking the door after the horse has bolted.
I am very confused as I was sure that due to sharing PR with the LA I should
A) be consulted/informed regarding breakdown
B) be told about the move
the move is now no longer a LA placement but with my child's partners family home and they are fostering my child.

Dear fru5trated

Welcome back to the parents’ discussion board. Thank you for your post. I am sorry that there has been a delay in replying to your query.

I am also sorry to hear that your 17-year-old, who is a Looked After child, was moved suddenly last week. And that you were not consulted or informed about this until you contacted children’s services following the changes. I understand that this is confusing and may be very distressing for you.

Unless your child has stated that they did not want you involved or informed you then children’s services should have updated you about the issues your child was experiencing and that they had been ‘kicked out’ of the home they were placed in since April. There should also be a Looked After Child review held when there is a significant change to a child or young person’s care plan. Please see this information here which explains this.

I would suggest that you seek clarification in writing of the legal status of your child’s current placement. And clarify if a Looked After Child review has been planned. You could write to the social worker, their manager, and the Independent Reviewing Officer.

If you are unhappy with the children’s services’ actions or response, you could consider making a complaint.

If you would like to discuss your situation with an adviser please call the freephone advice line on 0808 8010366, Mon to Fri, 9.30 am to 3.00 pm (except bank holidays). Or if you prefer, you can post back here, send an advice enquiry, or use our webchat facility.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes

Suzie
