Hi new here

Bit of back story, was with ex partner since 2018 history of domestic violence had daughter in 2021, social was involved put my daughter on child protection plan long story short we both worked with social workers ended up coming off plan. Fast forward to 2023 partner hurt me again I immediately ended the relationship as it showed he never learned he’s lesson, he moved out contacted stopped for a long time now April 2024 he started emailing me abusive emails by August 2024 I had contacted court nav my see started the non molestatiin order process was granted this for 1 year in September 2024. Heard the ex had a key to my property that is solely mine so I called my landlord explained they sent out lock smith to change locks she asked if I feel safe I said no so we spoke and decided a management move may be a good option to do this she needed a supporting letter to which she said marac will be able to help refered me there this then triggered social service referral again now I’m panicking what will happen

Dear Dede2024

Thank you for your post and welcome to the discussion board. My name is Suzie, I am an online adviser and will be replying to you today.

You experienced domestic abuse with your ex-partner. Children’s Services were involved. Your child was placed on a child protection plan. You and your ex-partner worked with children’ services and the plan closed to Children’s Services. In 2023 your ex-partner harmed you again. You ended the relationship, and he moved out of the family home. All contacted stopped until 2024.

In April of 2024, your ex-partner started to send you abusive emails. You made an application for a non-molestation order which was granted for one year, from September 24.

Your ex-partner had keys to your property and as safety measure you contacted the property manager to ask for the locks to be changed and requested a managed move due to domestic abuse. This triggered a referral to Children’ Services and you are now worried about the likely next steps and whether they will again, become involved in your life.

It is difficult for me to say whether they will become involved again. It will depend on the level of risk they feel your ex-partner poses to you and your child and to what extent you are a protective parent. Children services may undertake an assessment to assess this.

From the information shared, it seems that you did act appropriately to safeguard yourself and your child once your ex partner entered your life again. You ended the relationship after the domestic abuse incident, you made an application for a non-molestation order, got the locks changed on your property and requested a managed move away from the area.

Once the referral is received children’s services will need to decide whether this meets their threshold for assessment. If it does, then they may carry out a child in need or a child protection assessment Please link on the links for further information regarding these assessments. If you do not meet the threshold for assessment, it may be that children’s services refer you to Early Help. Please clink on the link for further information.

I have added a link HERE to our ‘top tips’ when working with social workers. This guidance sets out how to work well with children’s services and what you might wish to consider if things are not going well. This also includes information and guidance on making a formal complaint.

I am not sure whether you are linked into a domestic abuse organisation therefore I have added a link HERE to Women’s Aid who offer support and information for women who are experiencing domestic abuse.

I hope you find this information helpful. There are many ways to contact Family Rights Group, please do look at our website for further information about this or post again here if you have further questions.

Best wishes, Suzie
