Having a baby after previous social involvement
Hi there my partner and myself are currently 6 and a half weeks pregnant and we are concerned about proceeding with pregnancy due to previous situations with our other 2 children together through other relationships. I have a 5 year old boy who is under guardianship from my mum due to me having some mental health issues I needed to address a few years back!! I've spoken with cla and they have explained that my situation shouldn't effect my chances of social taking baby! My other concern is my partner has a no court order against him where he's not allowed to see his first born he is concerned he will still be seen as a risk he was 18 when this was put in place he's almost 23 now! Please if anyone knows if social could take my child I don't want to take any chances

Dear PLKMYR4
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Forum.
When you meet with a midwife and say that you have a child living with their grandparent because of an historical concern about your mental health as Child Law Advice has suggested it may not ‘affect your chances’ of caring for your baby now.
However, you have said children’s services were involved with the decision regarding your older child, perhaps it was care proceedings that led to the ‘guardianship?’ If so, a referral ‘will’/may be made to them. It would be helpful if you outlined your partner’s history to any professionals, being clear from the start is usually helpful to parents.
Our webpages for parents to be, may be helpful to you both, here is a link to them.
If you would like to speak with one of our advisers, in confidence, our telephone service is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.00pm on 0808 801 0366.
Best wishes
Suzie
