Our online advice forums are an anonymous space where parents and kinship carers (also known as family and friends carers) can get legal and practical advice, build a support network and learn from other people’s experiences.
Our get help and advice section has template letters, advice sheets and resources about legal and social care processes. On Monday and Thursday afternoons, you can use our webchat service to chat online to an adviser.
Family Rights Group’s interactive Birth Families Map helps birth families affected by adoption to find support services in England. We have launched a call out to new and existing services to make sure families can access the latest information.
For families affected by adoption, finding help and support to navigate the adoption process, to understand their rights and options, and to access specialist therapy, has a significant impact.
The map was launched in May 2024 as a much-needed national resource to help birth families find the support they need. Since then, thousands of family members and practitioners have searched the map for services in their area.
Families can find support services in their area using their postcode. It includes services that provide support groups, advice and information, help with contact, and counselling or therapy, either before, during, or after adoption.
We are looking for services that are provided by local authority children’s services departments, regional adoption agencies, charities, or other organisations that support birth families whose children have been adopted or may be adopted.
If you have a service to add, complete this short online survey by Friday 17 October 2025.
If your service is already included on the map, Family Rights Group will be in touch over the next month to check for any changes to the support offered.
Organisations can also find our comms toolkit below to help promote the service to families you work with.
If you have any questions about any aspect of the map update, please contact Savannah Burney, Social Work Policy Adviser, at sburney@frg.org.uk.
Your donation will help more families access expert legal advice and support from Family Rights Group.
