ABOUT US

We are a leading UK charity delivering Family Group Conferences (FGC). Building on over 25 years of experience, we are now exploring new and innovative ways of working alongside families and communities. We are doing this at a time when the Government has set out a clear vision for Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) to become a central offer to families experiencing challenges and engaging with Children’s and Families Services. This is a pivotal moment to join our organisation and help shape the future of this work.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role offers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of children, young people, and their families. Following referrals from Children’s Social Care, you will work with families to support family-led problem solving through the process of FGCs, which is a form of FGDM.

As an impartial Coordinator, your role is to enable families to build and strengthen their support networks and prepare them to come together to address identified safeguarding concerns. You will then convene and facilitate FGCs, ensuring attendees have all the information they need to plan a positive way forward – including inviting and engaging with relevant professionals. Overall, you will empower families to make their own decisions, whilst ensuring the child or young person’s voice is heard.

This is case-holding role, supporting several families at a time. Each family is typical supported for approx. 6-8 weeks. You will work impartially alongside a professional network including Social Workers. You will often work with families experiencing challenges such as mental health, substance or alcohol misuse, domestic violence and abuse, and other safeguarding or Adverse Childhood Experience situations.

You will be supported by a Daybreak Programme Manager for the Wiltshire service, and work alongside a team of freelance Coordinators.

You can read more about the role of a Family Group Conference Coordinator on our blog or attend a free introductory webinar. The next available date is 30 September 2025. Please note that this webinar is suited more to those exploring a freelancer role, and is not part of our recruitment process, but it may provide useful information and clarity to an interested candidate.

If the successful candidate is not already trained in FGC Coordination, full training will be provided, together with ongoing continuous professional development training opportunities.

Families feedback from our FGC service:

“As someone who doesn’t have much knowledge on what a Family Group Conference is and what it can do for me, I was surprised by the impact the first meeting has made for myself, my son and his dad. The most uncomfortable conversations were had in a safe environment and I feel everyone got a chance to voice their options and have their needs met in a short space of time.”

“The Coordinator was extremely gentle and informative of the whole process. Promises were kept as there were no surprises during the meeting. It’s been so nice having the opportunity to get together as a family in a calm environment. This enables us to do that, and I am very grateful. It was very positive for my daughter, who felt supported and had the opportunity to have her voice heard and be part of the process.”
