50 years of Family Rights Group

Family Rights Group is 50!

50 years is a huge milestone, and an opportunity to pause, reflect and plan for our next steps.

We are incredibly proud of the influence we have had on the child welfare system, working to support children and families to stay safely together.

We have brought the experiences of families to the forefront, changed law and practice, put kinship care on the political map, and reconnected young people in care with those who love them.

None of this would have been possible without all those who have supported us.

Our special anniversary film includes some of those we have worked most closely with, including Angela, a birth parent, Shanayd, a kinship carer, and Salma, a care experienced young person.

Our work is needed now more than ever

There is a record number of children in the care system, and outcomes for many of those children are not good enough.

Children and families are struggling to get help, to prevent crises escalating.

A baby in the North East is three times more likely to be removed from their family than a baby in London.

Half of kinship carers have to give up work to take on the children, facing significant hardship.

But we have the solutions to transform the child welfare system and support more children to remain safely in their family. With the will and investment from Government we can make it happen.
