Is there guidance about how help should be provided to disabled children and their families?
Under 1 minute read
Yes. Children’s services should work in partnership with children and their families. This is clear in government statutory guidance (see Working Together 2018, paragraph 10, page 9). This principle applies equally to disabled children and their families.
Day to day, partnership working includes:
- Listening to what families think may help them
- Involving children and families in assessments
- Listening to the views of the child before making decisions and plans
- Making decisions with children and families wherever possible.
