Our advice service

Are you a parent, kinship carer relative or friend of a child who is involved with, or who needs the help of, children’s services in England? We can help you understand processes and options when social workers or courts are making decisions about your child’s welfare.

Our advice service is free, independent and confidential.

Discuss on our forums

Our online advice forums are an anonymous space where parents and kinship carers (also known as family and friends carers) can get legal and practical advice, build a support network and learn from other people’s experiences.

Advice on our website

Our get help and advice section has template letters, advice sheets and resources about legal and social care processes. On Monday and Wednesday afternoons, you can use our webchat service to chat online to an adviser.

Lifelong Links Training

Lifelong Links training is for family group conference coordinators who wish to increase their understanding and develop necessary skills to become a Lifelong Links coordinator.

Training places are only available to local authorities and organisations who receive our Lifelong Links consultancy package.

Family Rights Group is the sole provider of Lifelong Links training.

What are the course objectives?

Lifelong Links is an award-winning approach to rebuilding relationships and connecting children and young people in care with people they can rely on.

By the end of the training course coordinators will be able to begin Lifelong Links work.

Taking part in the course will help you to:

  • Recognise the value of the Lifelong Links approach for children and young people.
  • Develop an overview of the legal and policy framework surrounding Lifelong Links.
  • Know how to apply learning from family group conference practice to Lifelong Links work.
  • Understand the importance of working in partnership with other services.
  • Discover support networks for children in the care system.
  • Engage wider networks identified by children and young people.
  • Use Lifelong Links practice tools when working with children and families.
  • Prepare for and organise a Lifelong Links family group conference.
  • Ensure the success of Lifelong Links plans.
  • Understand Lifelong Links accreditation framework and practice standards.

How is the training delivered?

This is an interactive course, delivered virtually over three days.
