Lifelong Links: building lasting, loving relationships for children and young people in care

Published: 9th February 2025

2 minute read

Lifelong Links is an approach designed to make sure every child in care and every care leaver is connected to people who care about them – for life. Developed by Family Rights Group in collaboration with children, families, foster carers and local authorities, it seeks to build lasting and loving relationships and a positive support network that children and young people can rely on during their time in care and into adulthood. Since 2017, almost 4000 children and young people have benefitted. Family Rights Group supports local authorities to implement Lifelong Links with children in care and care leavers. We train Lifelong Links coordinators, publish tools and resources, and provide consultancy support. Our “Build not Break” campaign calls on the Government to ensure that all children and young people in care and care leavers are offered Lifelong Links.

On Tuesday 18th March 2025, we hosted a webinar designed to provide insight into Lifelong Links from various perspectives. Chaired by Nigel Richardson CBE, we were also joined by Matt Clayton, Strategic Lead – Children in Care, Children with Disabilities and Care Leavers at Coventry City Council  and Louis, a young person who described how Lifelong Links has helped them.
