Agency decision maker
A senior person in an adoption agency who makes important decisions on the agency’s behalf. Agency decision makers also make decisions within fostering agencies. They will be an experienced social worker.
They decide whether:
- Someone who wants to adopt or foster a child is suitable to do so. This includes kinship carers.
- A child should live with particular foster carers.
- A child can move to live with prospective adopters.
The agency decision maker will receive advice from an adoption panel or fostering panel about plans for a child. The agency decision maker can make their own final decision, but should take the guidance from the panels into account.
