What does the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill mean for family group decision making?

Published: 14th February 2025

Under 1 minute read

In light of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill and the subsequent announcement of the Children’s Social Care Prevention Grant, Family Rights Group held a webinar on Thursday 13th February exploring the implications that the Bill could have for family group decision making. We also looked at the growing evidence in support of family group conferences, considered the gold standard of family group decision making approaches. Watch below to find out more.

Chaired by Dez Holmes, Director of Practice and Programmes at the National Children’s Bureau, speakers included Paul Nixon (former Chief Social Worker of New Zealand and Assistant Director of North Yorkshire), Tendai Murowe (Assistant Director at Southwark Council) and Sean Haresnape (FGC and Lifelong Links practice lead, Family Rights Group). We were also joined by Lorna, a kinship carer with direct experience of the family group conference process, who shared how the approach helped her family.
