Our online advice forums are an anonymous space where parents and kinship carers (also known as family and friends carers) can get legal and practical advice, build a support network and learn from other people’s experiences.
Our get help and advice section has template letters, advice sheets and resources about legal and social care processes. On Monday and Wednesday afternoons, you can use our webchat service to chat online to an adviser.
Supported lodgings are when children’s services support a care leaver to live as a ‘lodger’ with a family or adult in a private home.
Supported lodgings are used for 16 to 24-year-olds. They are used as a bridge between having been in care and living alone as an adult.
There is no formal definition of supported lodgings and no regulatory framework. However, any adult who offers lodgings will have to be approved by children’s services. Some are already approved foster carers. The person providing supported lodgings should receive support and training, from children’s services.
